Stone Veneer

Stone veneer · Phoenix, AZ

Stone Veneer

Natural and manufactured stone, hand-placed for fireplaces, columns, accent walls, and full facades. Set over a proper barrier and scratch base through licensed crews.

The work

Stone veneer lives or dies on what's behind it. Stuck straight to a wall with no drainage or a sloppy mortar bed, it stains, loosens, and lets water in within a few years.

We install it the right way. A weather barrier and lath go on first, then a scratch coat, then each stone is set, leveled, and grouted by hand with clean edge detailing.

Natural or manufactured, on one accent wall or a whole front elevation, it goes on to stay put and shed water.

What's included

How we install stone that stays

  1. Surface prep and lath

We start with a weather barrier and metal lath so the stone has a sound, draining base, not bare wall.

  2. Scratch coat bed

A scratch coat gives the mortar something to bond to, the step skipped jobs leave out.

  3. Hand-placed stone

Each piece is set, leveled, and fit by hand for a natural pattern, not a repeating grid.

  4. Grout and edge detailing

We finish the joints and detail the edges and corners so the wall reads finished, not cut off.

Pretty on day one is easy. Still on the wall in ten years is the work

A lot of stone veneer you see failing was set straight onto the wall with no barrier and no drainage. Water gets behind it, sits through a few cold nights, and pops stones loose.

We build the base first, the same barrier-and-lath system we use under stucco, so water that gets behind the stone has a way out. Then the stone is set by hand over a real scratch coat. It costs a little more time up front and it is the difference between a feature wall and a callback.
